This module considers the construction of African American identities in twentieth century America . Through written, visual and archival sources we will examine the current socio-political situation of African America, the burden and legacy of slavery, various strands of black political thought, black feminism and the visual representation of African Americans The aim of this module is to enable you to successfully situate a variety of materials (literature journalism, political speeches, film, photographs, paintings, museum archives and academic texts) in a critical context. Your aim will be to show your skill in doing so through oral participation in the seminars and workshops and in written form
